Jorie

I am rather new to sailing. I became interested in it after meeting my husband Ken. He introduced me to sailing and encouraged me to take sailing lessons at our local sailing school (OCSC) on San Francisco Bay. Gradually the idea of cruising became stronger and stronger for the both of us. We began avidly reading the cruising magazines, and looking at boats on-line and locally. It soon became apparent that if we wanted to make it happen, we had to make the commitment, and put the wheels in motion, which is exactly what we have done. We did some extreme down-sizing, giving away, donating, and putting things in storage. We sold our houses, and cars, retired from our careers, and bought our boat...Tide N Knots.

A little about my background,… I grew up with an unusual mother, who bought a yellow school bus one day, loaded up all six of her children, and started traveling around the United States. We traveled around from the time I was five, until around sixteen years old. We did not usually stay in one place longer than a month, we were constantly making new friends, our belongings were few, due to lack of space, and we were very good at entertaining ourselves with reading, games, and such. This early lifestyle, I think, has helped prepare me for cruising.

Since the hippy days, I have become the mother of three children, and have put myself through college. I am (or was) a critical care nurse. My children are now in college or have careers. Ken also has three children, close in age as my own. So between the two of us, we have six wonderful kids.
Now you know a little bit about us. Welcome to our web page and enjoy our adventures with us.

Ken

So who am I and what am I doing here? No easy answers to simple questions. I tried sailing when I was a teenager. While I enjoyed the experience I was going different directions back then, so sailing was pretty much forgotten. Flash forward about 27 years. I'm divorced and raising three children. I decided to move to the San Francisco bay area. My mother and sister live north of SF and I thought it would be good for my children to be close to family.

When I got to the bay area I realized that sailing was a major pastime. So I decided to try sailing again. I investigated the sailing schools in the bay area and found OCSC (OCSCsailing.com) in Berkley, CA. I started at the beginning and found that I really did love the whole experience.

I started to think about buying a boat and sailing off. Of course, I was a long way from putting anything together. I met Jorie and together we realize this idea didn't have to be a dream. We resolved on new years day 2005 to make it happen.

So here we are I hope you enjoy watching our dream as much as we are going to enjoy living it.
